  1. Is Finishers Project a job/ministry matching service?
  2. This is true, in part. The Finishers Project in STEP 2 on the web provides you with a "shopping cart" of organizations that are custom fit for you, depending on your life situation and choice of preferences.

The Finishers Project is designed to provide information, challenge and pathways for people to enter missions from their careers, whether 25 or 75 years of age.

  3. How will I know if a recommended match really fits me?
  4. Return to top

This is the number one question people have in evaluating ministry options, or marketplace options for that matter. How will these DISCOVERY STEPs help?

DISCOVERY STEP 1 - gets your thinking going. Answer a few questions to receive a free paper prepared by author John Bradley who is president of IDAK group. At this step you will also receive a series of eight helpful email messages, again to prompt your thinking over time.

DISCOVERY STEP 2 - provides a substantial start in the process. This services has been in place since April 2000 and has assisted over 5000 people through 2002. Organizations that have real opportunities are presented to those that enter a profile of themselves in this STEP. The fit of these organizations are ranked for you by a "percent" fit. Those with a higher percentage generally are indeed a better fit, according to individuals and mission agencies alike. This requires more work and networking on your part than STEP 3 to find a good fit. You will likely find several right answers. Pursue any one of them.

DISCOVERY STEP 3 - provides a definitive assurance of a fit. This includes a personal counselor plus testing to define your skills that transfer to ministry organizations. Here you discover energizing assignments that fit both your aptitudes and passions. You will be able to determine those opportunities that fit best among the full range of options available. There is a fee for STEP 3 paid directly to the professional service, not to the Finishers Project.

DISCOVERY STEP 4 - A free service as a result of completing STEP 3. With a definitive picture of your skills and passions (translated into terms that make sense to ministry as well as marketplace organizations) you will have a high degree of certainty you have a "best fit" for an assignment that you really enjoy — that really energizes you.

  5. How else might I/we determine a fit?
  6. The best way is begin to build a relationship with a mission agency in the next several months. Take a short-term mission trip or two to venues of interest. Willow Creek Community Church, IL was surprised to discover that those that are maturing the most rapidly in the Lord, attribute the Christian growth to their involvement in cross-cultural ministry — home or abroad.

  7. How do I consider the financial obligations for my family?
  8. This is the number two question people have in deciding whether to transition from the marketplace to ministry. See the entire section of "Funding Your Calling" for helps and ideas, whatever your current financial situation.
  9. Will I need seminary or Bible college training?
  10. This depends on the type of ministry assignment you are considering. Many of the Finishers Project partner mission agencies evaluate each candidate individually, giving credit for life-study and life-experience. Many positions do not require special Bible training.
  11. Will I need to learn another language?
  12. Most ministry is done in English. If you find another language is useful, because you are motivated to connect with nationals in their own heart langauge, there are useful new language acquistion tools now available. Your mission agency can point you to these resources. Contrary to popular perception, it age is not a factor in the time it takes to learn a language. It is just that at 55 we expect to learn more quickly than someone at 25.
