WOMEN OF THE HARVEST - MAGAZINE

THE NEED

When Laurie Bolthouse was preparing to go to Albania in April of 1997 with her husband Bill, she looked for magazines or newsletters specifically for women in cross-cultural service. To her dismay, she found none. That's when Laurie had the idea of starting a magazine that would be a forum for issues uniquely related to women serving overseas. "I am challenged and deeply encouraged listening to the hearts of other women," Laurie says. "I need their experiences and wisdom to persevere. I need connection with those who also have chosen this challenging, difficult, but exhilarating path."

THE FOCUS

The articles are written by women serving around the world and deal with the real life issues of cross-cultural service. Other regular features include Home Front — keeping you in touch with America (Reviews of books, CDs, and movies) and Front Lines — current news from the field ("Books I'm Reading," "How Do You Deal With This," "Globally Good" and "If I Didn't Laugh"). The bi-monthly magazine is free of charge and can be requested on their website at www.womenoftheharvest.com. You will need to become a registered user and obtain a password to view the entire website. (For your protection, all public pages of the website are clean.)

THE OPPORTUNITY
  • Weekly Word is a Bible study series distributed each week via email.
  • Harvest Legacy is a quarterly newsletter for parents and extended family of people serving cross-culturally.
  • Dynamic, interactive, resource-filled web site
  • Library of archived articles by topic from previous issues

RETREAT MINISTRY

Three retreats are held at two different international locations as well as one in the U.S. each year. Highlights include worship in English, study of the Word, LOTS of free time, pampering options, laughter, and a refreshing time with women who get your life. The retreats provide a safe place where your unique needs are understood and addressed. Visit their website to learn about upcoming locations and registration information. Retreats are free of charge to all attendees and are underwritten by friends (donors) of Women of the Harvest.
