MORE PROCESS
I'M NOT SURE ABOUT ME AND MISSIONS IT'S A PROCESS
You are not alone. In a 1998 research survey of 600 evangelicals, age 42-55, the two leading questions in the minds of people were
- Is this God's will for my life and
- questions about support or money.
How do we determine God's will? The short answer is
- Spend time each day getting to know God.
Some use devotionals, some read through selected passages each day according to a plan, some read a chapter a day and discuss this will the Lord. (After a year that is 365 chapters and a great habit!) Unless we get to know the Lord in a deep abiding personal way, it will be difficult to discern a plan to our lives.
- Offer your gifts to Him.
It is likely the Lord will use you in an area He has gifted you. Consider offering yourself as a living sacrifice in areas of your talents, skills, training, interests and passions. The mix of giftedness you have, your ten talents, is what the Lord expects you to offer back to Him.
For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea.
[Hab 2:14] This will be finished with our without you. Our choice is to either join Him in His passion for worshippers or miss it. Will it be you found faithful in His harvest fields or will you leave it to your children or another nation?
There is no doubt about the assignment we have from the Lord. When Jesus left the earth following His post-resurrection appearances He asked those laypeople assembled,
"All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." [Matthew 28:18-20]
Now the Lord has prepared each in a different way. In many cases He impresses upon us to serve Him locally. That does not mean we are to have a narrow world view. He was talking to you and me when He implored us to "go and make disciples of all nations."
The whole ministry of Jesus on earth has its climax in the words "Therefore go." There is a sense from scripture that the first question Jesus will ask us in glory is, "How did you do with last request?"
