| Answer: | Teaching the single most sought after position to fill in foreign missions. All the teaching is done in the international trade language, English. There are opportunities at all grade levels — preschool, primary, secondary, and college.
Some organizations have joined the Finishers Project solely to recruit teachers. The need is acute. Why is the need so great? What are the range of ways teachers can be used? |
| Missionary Schools | Missionaries want their children to have a first class education. Many will forego home schooling to send them to a mission school. Some missionaries with acquired language skills will abandon their calling to serve overseas if their children cannot get a first class education overseas. Other missionaries, that have successful acquired the local language will stay in-country, but off the field, to teach in mission schools even though a professional English-speaking teacher without the local language would be a better choice. This is not the best use of valuable missionary resourses. |
| American-Style Schools Overseas | There are some international schools that also invite local national children and other expatriate children to attend, many from non-Christian families. They charge full tuition for those children. Many of these schools pay a salary. |
| Short-Term | There are times when a regular teacher needs some time-off to take care of urgent family, personal or administrative matters. If you are available and flexible, offer this as a way to get acquainted with serving as a teacher. |
| College | There are many college level opportunities. The foreign college and graduate schools want professors with advanced degrees. If you have a Masters Degree or PhD in any field, please indicate that when you enter your personal profile information form. If you go, they will listen. If you go, you will be a witness. You only have to show up [with a close walk with the Lord and a servant's heart]. |
Funding
Your Ministry | Be advised most, but not all, organizations require you that raise support. This should not stop you. Some people can be self-supporting. Others can provide partial support, while yet others need to raise full support. Many with a life-time of friends from their churches, can raise funds in far less time than young people just starting out.
